About the Journal

Archaeological Materials and Conservation Science(AMCS) is an international, peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to advancing interdisciplinary research at the intersection of archaeology, materials science, and cultural heritage conservation. The journal provides a platform for the publication of original research, methodological innovations, theoretical developments, and technical studies related to the characterization, deterioration, conservation, and restoration of archaeological and historical materials.

The journal covers a wide range of material categories, including but not limited to paper, textiles, ceramics, metals, pigments, stone, lacquerware, and composite materials. It emphasizes the application of scientific approaches such as physicochemical analysis, microstructural characterization, analytical chemistry, imaging technologies, and computational modeling to investigate material properties, degradation mechanisms, and conservation strategies.

The journal places particular emphasis on research related to conservation and restoration techniques, encompassing both traditional craftsmanship and modern scientific approaches. It encourages studies that integrate advanced analytical methods with practical conservation processes, promote the integration of material research with archaeological interpretation, and strengthen the connection between scientific investigation, conservation practice, and archaeological understanding.

In addition, the journal welcomes contributions addressing conservation materials, preventive conservation, environmental impacts on cultural heritage, long-term stability assessment, and the scientific evaluation of conservation interventions. Submissions that combine experimental research, analytical techniques, and data-driven approaches are strongly encouraged.

The journal also considers archaeological studies of significant scholarly value, particularly those focusing on material culture, technological practices, and the formation, use, and transformation of archaeological materials, especially where such research contributes to the scientific interpretation and conservation of cultural heritage.

In addition to original research articles, the journal publishes review papers, technical reports, methodological studies, and case studies, with particular interest in those that systematically document conservation processes and practical experiences supported by scientific analysis.

The journal aims to foster collaboration among archaeologists, conservation scientists, materials scientists, museum professionals, and heritage practitioners, promoting the integration of scientific research with conservation practice. Its mission is to advance the scientific understanding and sustainable preservation of cultural heritage materials through interdisciplinary approaches and innovation in both analytical methods and conservation techniques.
